My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Despite breaking the rules about writing, this novel held my interest from the first page. Who needs paragraph breaks? Or chapters? Do we care if the narrator intrudes? As long as the plot grabs you and carries you along to another world, you want to read.
Aly, the abused child, speaks to the humanity inside all caring individuals. The girl's plight and neglect tears at your heart. Could such a situation really happen? I fear it could.
Maybe it's a magical release from torment, but the existence of unicorns must have some basis in reality from mankind's earliest fables. The author touches on the creatures at the end. Rather than connecting the dots, Tabitha Peterson paints in daubs of color, leaving the image to interpretation.
One reader's opinion slants any review, however, I found this novel totally absorbing and have given it the highest rating. To me, the author shows raw talent. Go on writing Tabitha Peterson, and I'll go on reading.
