My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The unaccustomed voice used by the author grabbed my attention from the start. It’s almost as if the poor, damaged main character is reporting what happened in his search for a sustaining living while being threatened from all sides. Yet Hunter never pities himself, simply covering the way pain affects his artificial parts along with the benefits they give him in his tireless unrewarding work, which mostly benefits those around him.
The unusual situation, and the use of unfamiliar terms, is softened by Hunter’s friendships in this well-written story of a future I’d rather not experience first hand, but which he handles adequately.
