In this version of future Earth, bots have taken over running things. And they're not good. People fear them. To resist means death. Because we're not party to the AI's thoughts, we don't know what they plan—but it won't be in humanity's favour.
When Aiden's parents are killed during the first AI uprising, the story gripped me. However his adult life did not involve me or have me rooting for him. The plot gave a good account of why he lived within the confines of the bot's rules, yet Aiden lacked the depth of many human senses, which could be due to his circumstances. All the reader is able to connect with are his thoughts and actions. While there is nothing amiss with writing, I needed more to turn this plot into a first rate read.
