Writing a novel is NOT the same as painting a picture.

A picture, no matter what the media, is a physical thing. It exists, takes up space and can be seen by anyone who looks at it.

A book, be it fact or fiction, is usually available for sale as a script, on the www., through a site like Amazon, although the writing could be hand-written or published in a printed form (which would make it physical).

The chances of someone stumbling on it, like a painting in an artist’s garret, are improbable. Therefore, the writer or their representative must promote the contents to gain a wide range of viewers.

Some people publish work after work and achieve moderate success because of word of mouth. However, heaven knows there is a glut of books to choose from, and without the support group, their work would never see the light of day.

What happens to all those writers who are unable to promote their work? Some, like me, are aged or infirm. They just can’t get out and about to talk about their stories. Self-publishing might be unattainable to them because of their lack of expertise. Others, also like me, may have a publisher, but they still need to promote their work themselves.

The whole process must drain the writer’s spirit and the will to go on producing.

Is the effort worth the disappointment?

An interesting question: Is it worth it?

I’ve told children’s stories for a long as I can remember, but didn’t bother to write them down. I guess I counted on the children to remember them. Meanwhile, I’ve been researching a subject that has been a driving force in my life for over 70 years: What is Truth? And how can we tell it from non-truth, i.e., how can we tell non-fiction from fiction?

A dry subject? Too “heady”? Perhaps, but when it determines what we believe, and what we are willing to fight wars over? Maybe it has a purpose in promoting a sense of peace around us.

My first self-published book on the subject, “A House without Walls”, involves the book of Genesis and why this first book of the Bible is the same as evolution. There are no “hand-waving” arguments in the book, just facts. Unfortunately though, I’ve been sick for several years and unable to pursue my dream of ending the debate between scientists and theologians. I have been unable to “promote” this book. Consequently, it hasn’t sold very well.

Was if it still worth writing? Yes! And “Yes”, again!

Why? Because, in the process, I’ve learned more than I thought possible about the writer of the book of Genesis, and this have caused a second book to be written: “Noah in a Cellular World: Mitosis”.

I am now writing a third book about the 23 patriarchs and how they are related to the 23 male chromosome, as well as how the evolution of Chromosome 2 is related to yet another part of the book of Genesis and the process of meiosis.

It's amazing how much an old "code-breaker" can learn from an old language!

I am learning. And if writing increases my learning, then although I may be sad that no one is reading these books, I am still happy to be learning something new every day.

It’s like waking up in the morning and seeing the world through a child’s eyes…like growing young instead of old! Like growing “well”, instead of “sickly”. Of course it’s worth it, to me!

I wonder what new things I’ll see and learn today!?

So well put, Billie. You have the gift of expressing your views. You ARE read. By an amazing coincidence, the universe has connected us via the web and I'm reading your first book now. Your way of thinking and researching is unique. If ANYONE's writing deserves to last into the future, it is yours. Perhaps you could include a link to buying your books.

Thank you, Francene! You are such a dear person for saying this!

Both books are self-published on Amazon.

The first book ("A House without Walls) can be found at https://www.amazon.com/House-Without-Walls-B-Jensen/dp/1530080649/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1514400757&sr=8-2&keywords=A+House+without+Walls

The second book (Noah in a Cellular World: Mitosis) can be found at https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_1_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=noah+in+a+cellular+world+mitosis&sprefix=Noah+in+a+C%2Cstripbooks%2C127&crid=2D01FUQADBHFX

I'm sorry these addresses are so long and cumbersome. If anyone wants to contact me, they can do so via my website: www.bljensen.com. If they want to see any of the timelines already found in the book of Genesis, just follow the "doors" beginning with the "Genesis" door. This website is a work in progress.
